M42 and M43, Taken at Las Cruces NM Stargate Observatory 20-Jan-2010 thru 06-Feb-2010.
Image with the ST2000XCM and AO8 with a WO110ED at F6 piggybacked on a Meade LX200 14" GPS This is a dynamic range
composite of 10(ea) 1 minute subs, 10(ea) 3 minute subs, 10(ea) 5 minute subs, 4(ea) 10 minute subs, and 15(ea) 20 minute subs.
7 hours and 10 minutes total stacked and aligned with Images Plus and Photoshop Final Processing in Photoshop
Lying just south of the three stars that form Orion's belt, Orion's sword contains M42,
a complex cloud of glowing hydrogen gas and dust. Historcally refered to as the Great Orion Nebula, M42
lies about 1350 light years away, making it the brightest and closest star forming region to Earth.
